The lines to get food can take from 30 minutes-2 hours. Dining hall food made everyone sick. The dean is the rudest most arrogant and unprofessional man I've ever met. 3/4 of the professors I had were nutcases on a political agenda. I only enjoyed 1 class I took here, and it was the only one that actually educated me. This school is cheap and full of staff that don't give a s*** if you succeed or not. Don't waste your time or money on this sad excuse for a college. The people are friendly for the most part, the staff is wonderful and go above and beyond to help students. The financial aid office, however, is very unorganized. One minute they tell you that you owe money, next minute they say that you don't and that makes it hard to plan ahead. There also isn't much to do. The only good activities are the religious groups and maybe the Greek life, but as far as everything else, the students who run other activities seem boring and uninterested which drives people away. There's nothing to do on the weekends, everybody leaves and they have all of the good parties on Thursdays, which is stupid because everyone is hungover on class come Friday. The classes really aren't that hard and some teachers baby the students, which annoys me because we're in college and I want a challenge, but I am only taking general classes right now so maybe they'll get harder as I move up. Overall, it's ok but I probably won't be staying. Other than the professors, no one has a clue what is going on. Everyone has their head shoved sooo far up their butt they can't see the light of day. No one can answer your questions, and so they advise you to contact someone else who will send you right back where you started. You're completely on your own when it comes to figuring things out. As a freshman you are expected to know how to schedule your own classes and get financial aid, protect your schedule, pretty much get yourself going without any advice from anyone. As aforementioned, you can't get your questions answered so you're just out of luck. Financial aid screws just about everyone and then they can't figure out how to solve the issue. They screw you over and then say "Well it's your education! Here's the bill you have to pay to make up for our mistake." Morehead wants nothing but money from every student that passes through the doors. While the professors I find are completely qualified for the most part, the other staff is devastatingly incompetent. My freshman year I was not assigned an adviser for the first semester and only received one after 12 emails to various people. There are professors at this school that are very intelligent and wonderful and then there are those that are just plain stupid and lazy. I had an english professor who didn't like the fact that I asked a lot of questions and he ended up failing me. This really came as a shock to me considering I am a nationally published journalist, and took nothing but AP english classes in high school where I was the teachers assistant and created the lesson plans. I had to take the issue to the department chair who then graded my papers himself and said I was wrongfully failed. That didn't stop me from being required to retake the course the next semester. If you do chose to become a student at Morehead I hope you have a cool $5000 laying around just in case. Especially if you, like me, are one of those students whose parents make too much to be granted any federal aid or grants, and live in an area where there aren't a lot of scholarship opportunities. Even with scholarships and 2 loans I have more debt that was estimated. That's another thing. Recruiters will do a calculation when they are trying to persuade you to attend Morehead. It's a bunch of bull. Don't believe them. They are trying to sell you on morehead. The class sizes are far greater than "18" as the website says, and its more like 40 to 50 on average. I have never taken a class with Morehead that had less than 30 in the class. As a freshman you will have to jump through hoops and participate in required "fun". These seminars will not help you in any way for the school year and are completely a waste of time. If you plan on having a campus job I hope you are prepared to either work your ass off doing a job you didn't sign up for or that you are prepared to put up with stupid staff who can't explain to you what you are to do and expect you to know. I worked a campus job at the ADUC building as a desk worker and ended up working as a janitor until 10 pm, after one of the regular jantors was fired. After you gain 30 or so credit hours and you choose to live on campus, prepare yourself for an auction of sorts in order to select your room for next year. You will line up, sign up, and select a number out of a bag. The smaller the number the closer to the front of the line you are. Then they go in order and allow you to pick a room. If you wanted to keep your room tough luck if a senior wanted it, a senior got it. Housing is kind of luck of the draw. Most buildings suck and are pretty gross and you'll get one and be happy with it because at least it's not Cooper (or as most students call it Pooper because its so awful). Parking is just a stupid. If you're gonna live on campus and bring a car you might as well just get a pass for the parking lot across the high way. They will tell you that there are all of these parking spaces and lots available and throw out some big number, but what they don't tell you is how many of those spots and spaces are employee parking, handicap parking, reserved, apartment housing, or visitor parking (which is most spot, by the way). And I don't suggest bringing a bike because you really can't ride it on University blvd or on the sidewalk because of the students, and you might as well just give up on Battson-Oates Drive if you get one of those cute little one speed bikes. Oh but if you have a class in the CHER building you're gonna need it because its pretty much down on Flemingsburg Road so good luck getting there on time. Morehead is just a big crap sandwhich and I would never in a million years recommend it to someone. DO NOT ATTEND MOREHEAD.
