The school technology sucks.
If you are not majoring in science..mainly pre med ad pre pharm... expect to feel ignored by the school and to have classes is the old outdated building. Business majors can expect can expect to be so far apart from campus that it feels like you aren't part of it. That because your classes will be in a old broken down build at the farest end f campus thats filled with a lot of roaches and some rats.
Dont expect to have a big selection of professors either. If you get in a class with a professor who you feel cant teach( and there are a lot of them) than you might as well suck it up.
There is really nothing to do on campus.
The campus not a place you would normally hangout.
If you dont live on campus expect to not hear anything about campus events until after the fact.
New Orleans don't really offer anything. If you don't have a car you are screwed and the greatest night life attraction is pretty much a smelly street packed with people getting drunk. I did NOT want to leave the NORTH. and I did NOT want to go to a BLACK school. So for Xavier to make me proud I left, means SO MUCH.
Xavier administration vary. The teachers are great and supportive. The school itself has rules that keep you in check and the financial aid office keeps you on your toes. People who complain are not ready for the real world. This school teaches you how to stand up for yourself and pay attention to the fine print. You learn to read and read well, and not just take what is fed to you.
I learned that there is so much diversity within the Black community. You have all kinds of socioeconomic status, cultural ideas, religions, food likings, and even TASTES in music differ. It was refreshing to be greeted by so many accents. I had no idea how different people were state by state.
When Katrina happened and I went to New York University and The University of Illinois at Springfield for my "off semester" I appreciated Xavier so much more. I did not feel like a NUMBER at Xavier. People cared who I was. Even the JANITORS and CAFETERIA WORKERS knew me by name at Xavier and cared enough to give me a ride if they saw me u stuck at Bourbon Street. Xavier University teaches you how to time manage. You learn what you can handle and what you cannot.
I was NOT a good student in high school and skipped classes alot. When I got to Xavier, they kept me on my toes. I went to a party every weekend, had TWO part-time jobs and graduated with a 3.76 GPA - MAgna Cum Laude. I'm in love with Xavier for literally turning my life around. They turned this "ghetto New Yorker" into a sophisticated and articulate professional.

Anyone who has anything bad to say about Xavier did not spend their time their wisely. And if you don't believe me, ask the complainers what their GPAs are??? Ask them what extracurriculars they were involved in?? There are problems at every school. But only Xavier teaches you to be proud of being Black and being accomplished. My teachers were BLACK PhDs...I can't even find that in my GRADUATE school...

I love XU....and no one's unkind remarks can top my love for what I got out of Xavier. The administration is very difficult and the workers are very unprofessional. They will lose payments, letters, transcripts, anything. If you mail something pay extra money and get confirmation. If you are not a science major don't waste your money. People go to Xavier for the best chance to get into Pharmacy School and to attempt to get into med school. As in all HBCUs don't expect muich if any financial aid, or good facilities (as most of the inside of builds resemble old high schools). Don't come to Xavier and except to be at Bourbon Street everyday and still major in a science. You will not have time if you plan on being serious about your studies. Unless you are trying to go to Pharmacy, Dental, or Medical school there are plenty of other schools with more value for about half of the price of your money.
