You are constantly fighting with the system to get your courses. The courses you need are not available when you need them. WHen they are there is some restirction that requires you to go and wait in line at the registrar. Your courses never tranfer in correctly and you need professors to fix it or have substitution forms. Everything is computer based but half assed. So anything the computer couldn't figure out is left for a professor to figure out. If you thought banking hours were tough. They have tranfer station type hours. Being open on very select days, at very select hours. If you are a person who heard colleges are accommodating your work schedules and are understanding that's a farce. (Lets not even get into the work loads. You have four classes? Don't be surprised when you have three 15 page research papers due at once. Along with finals in each and homework all due the last week. WHY? Because its about getting through the material. Not you learning anything.

The system is confusing at first but manageable once you know it. They do have training programs, but nothing to reinforce it. You can understand it the first day but are expected to remember it.

Want to meet with an adviser? Great! Good luck getting some quality time and understanding of your degree works, and needed courses.

The professor seem like they like new ideas that promote positive thinking, but say it if it is not the mainstream idea or agrees with their opinion of thinking than they shoot you down. Instead of facilitating discussion they try and direct it to what they deem is appropriate. I have never been in a college that crapped on its own country so much and so often. This taking place is Soc and POSC areas. Meanwhile while reading articles that seem to promote globalism and the annihilation of the constitution. You will leave this college thinking the United States is the main reason the world has so many problems.

What are you trying to teach? Job training? Or Liberal agendas? I hated politics before and the two party system. But this is ridiculous it is so one sided. There is no neutral position or discussion from another point of view.

I ended up choosing this school because it was affordable and they offered the major that I wanted. Over a year later, I simply could not be more disappointed in my experience at Framingham State. Starting off with academics...I have not found my classes to be particularly difficult and it has been rather easy to get good grades without putting in much effort. I expected to be challenged and while it is nice to not have to put in so much effort, I know I will not benefit in the long run. Students here do not seem overly concerned about their education and many show up late to class and blatantly ignore the professors. Academics aside, social life on campus is very poor. Most of my good friends are people within my major who happen to be commuters and have no interest in sticking around at school when their classes are done for the day. Student involvement in clubs and activities is rather low, as well, making it somewhat difficult to meet people. Surprisingly, the residence halls are not overly conducive to meeting new people either. Most people keep their doors shut and are not overly friendly or interested in meeting new people. Also detrimental to the social life on campus is the fact that a majority of resident students go home on the weekends. During the tours and info sessions, the guides ensure prospective students that there is plenty to do do on the weekends and that lots of people stay on campus, but this just isn't true. Just visit campus on any given Friday afternoon or Sunday evening and you will see cars lining up in front of the residence halls either bringing people home or dropping people back off. I frequently compare this university to high school referring to it as "Route 9 High" due to the overall feel of the campus. The student body is very "cliquey" and people are very much attached to their old lives back home. One final thing I would like to comment on is the ratio of men to women. The school is 67% women and 37% men. I love women as much as the next guy, but I feel like more of a balance is needed. I acknowledge the fact that this school may be better suited for some more than others, and that is just fine. You just have to ask yourself what you are hoping to get out of your college experience. In my opinion, Framingham State does not offer the traditional "college experience," has mediocre academics, and has a subpar social life. Overall the food is okay, but the quality goes up when tours start, and goes down afterwards. The campus is very beautiful, but this is very irrelevant after spending more than a week here. Now the bad things, this school is EXTREMELY strict. If you plan on living on campus, just don't go here. There are bag checks every time you enter your dorm building, along with scanning your id. This is a very obnoxious procedure and it makes you feel cold, watched, and not trusted. The campus is dead on weekends. Most students are commuters or people that go home. Drinking and partying are almost non-existent here. People tend to assume that means going out of control and not getting any work done, but sometimes it would be nice to go out and be social, meet some new people. This along with the atmosphere, can make it hard to make friends if you are not very outgoing. The meal program here is designed to leave you hungry. I wish it were not true, but I can only eat once a day on the weekends. This is due to the hours of operation and the times you can swipe for a "meal." If I didn't want to sleep in then I could eat earlier, yes, but sleeping in is really a necessary thing. Overall, living here really does feel like living in a prison. It's very safe here, but its overwhelming. I would recommend this campus to a commuter student but not a resident student. To be fair it is the most affordable option for students in MA when compared to other universities. They are able to offer such low tuition while sacrificing much of what i expected out of a college experience. First of all the school is clearly overpopulated for its size. They recent built another dorm and are planning another without building the already lacking facilities on campus. The one cafeteria is absolutely horrible. It can become so crowded in the cafe that i have seen students sit on the floor. Not only is impossible to get into the cafe but the food it horrible and only gets worse as the year goes on. On weekends the food is the same thing every weekend and is particularly bad which is ironic because there is no one on campus anyway. The Library and gym close early on weekends and the administration doesn't give a shit about student life. The RAs plane activities suited for middle schoolers and only do so because they are required to on a monthly basis. The school is comprised of mostly commuters and the people who do live on campus leave on the weekends because there is absolutely nothing going on. I rarely even see anyone on the weekends who doesn't work here. I was a commuter for a short time and parking is a literal nightmare every day. Resident student who do have a car have to park a mile away and take a shuttle to get to there car. Registration is also horrible. the system crashes every single time and you will likely not get the classes you need . Also even though the school brags about how they put in a wireless system during tours its absolutely worthless. Watching a video is impossible and even getting your email is fortunate. i have had professors who wont work in their offices because the internet is so bad even if you plug it in. Of the friends I had as a freshmen most have transferred out and gone to Umass or other state universities and those that are still here hate it as much as I do and only stay because Framingham's credit system is designed to fuck you over if you try to leave. The only reason I would say to come here is because of $ and if so and your able become a commuter the education is fine and you'll just being wasting money trying to live on campus. Maybe I've just gotten more frustrated the longer I'm here but it seems to continually get worse every semester. So far the academic aspect has been alright. Most of my professors have been friendly and helpful. But some are better than others and a few of the general education classes can be stupid (avoid Bio). Registration is always a nightmare, the system they use is unreliable and most people can't get into the classes they expect. The real problem is that the social environmental at Framingham. Most people I know a lot of the guys I met during freshman year have transferred. The School is designed to cater to commuters. The school is deserted on weekends. On an average Saturday I can walk through campus and see less than a 10 people. Everyone goes home on the weekends, as soon as Friday morning there are lines of cars taking kids home. Most of the facilities on campus don't aren't even open on the weekends, even the library closes at 5 even during finals. The food is much worse than I ever would have expected and is at its worst on the weekend when the cafe is clearly understaffed. Now that the school is expanding and building new dorms during the week the cafe is unbelievably overcrowded. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I have seen student sit on the floor because they were not able to find a table during dinner. The administration has done nothing to address the problem and is even making news plans for even more dorms. The school provides very little in regards to extra curricular. Students who are completely overcome with boredom are the ones who start new clubs. Most people I know either work most of the time or have a very small group of friends who they hangout with, it is very difficult to meet new people and commuters have now way of getting involved on campus. The events that are held are usually organized by RAs and are haphazard and are only because they are required to do so. An example of a particularly bad event was when two RAs passed out candy in the elevator. You should know before attending that FSU is a dry campus and has a very strict policy. If you are caught drinking in the dorms you are banned for a week, again I think its a month and the third time you are banned entirely. Depending on the dorm and the RAs you get you can get away with it but most people prefer to go to sports houses off campus. I am clearly frustrated with this school and if I could go back I would not have attended, I've coincided transferring but anywhere I would go would be double the tuition of Framingham. If you do chose to come here I recommend getting as involved as you can during you Freshman year because it only because more difficult.
