I came from a school where everyone acted like they were still in highschool and hung out in cliques. EMU is not like this at all. Everyone interacts and are very friendly! Yes, eastern does typically get a bad rep, but in the end it is what you make of it. So far all of my professors have been great and very helpful. Advising is great too. They have helped me with scheduling and figuring out what I need to do to succeed in my program. Living on campus is the way to go. Off campus can be a little scary, safety wise. I definitely wish I would have come here all four years! I'm given one piece of information one day and then the very next day I'm given the complete opposite information. When dealing with a students refund, they are also dealing with a students ability to purchase textbooks and other materials for classes. When a refund is late due to a employers mistake by not reading computer information correctly they cause students to be ill-prepared for classes which obviously doesn't help with first impressions towards professors. Eastern was not my first choice for college, and I'm honestly considering transferring just to avoid all of the nonsense this school creates. I got help from scholsrships and financial aid. They met with me and my parents every year to be sure that I got what was coming to me. I recommended Eastern to my daughter, but her experience with the school has been negative. She loves her professors, but has been sick from pot smells in the dorm. Her Junior year was rough and I found the administration unhelpful. She had bedbugs in her university apartment. The nest was in the university furnished sofa. She did not get the normal bedbug certificate and it took all day for her to get her keys on move-in day. She was moved to a different apartment, but still accrued $2000 in expenses. At the same time, her campus job hours were taken from her and given to a work study student. Financial aid has refused to give me a meeting regarding my daughter's award. I don't feel my daughter is getting all award money she is entitled to. The tuition also went up 7.8%, but I saw no on compensation in her financial aid package. This should be my daughter's last year. The school seems more concerned with attracting new freshman than helping returning students finish. This year, my retired husband and I (a lead teacher at a non-profit school for homeless youth) will need to go deep within our pockets and into our retirements to make sure she finishes because she is too fsr into her program to transfer to a school thst is less greedy and more ethical. They are people with degrees in a field that they obviously did not get a job in and here they are pretending they know how to teach me. It truly is a challenge when you are given tons of assignments and reading and you feel like you are teaching yourself because they want you to "figure it out". Where is the education in that? The education which I am going into debt over. Mythology was the worst class I ever had. The professor was arrogant and very unhelpful.
