Classes are aimed particularly towards your job field and assignments give real world type experience. My true annoyance like that of the reviews I have read on this site is of the student body. Northwood is extremely Greek oriented. Being a transfer student from the florida campus I was told that if I wanted a more college experience out of Northwood I would have to go to the Midland campus. I did. What I was not told was that if you were not willing to join a fraternity you were screwed. Partys and gatherings are frequent but private to the greek life. I have been told multiple times when hearing of a party that invitation is only for frat brothers. If you are looking to get invited to anything at NU do yourself a favor and buy a bunch of shirts with funny punch lines on them, pop your coller, and join the frat life. You may feel like a tool for a the rest of your life but at least you wont have spent your time at NU bored out of yer mind. I may have dramatized that a little but really its Greek life or no life at NU. Not to sound full of myself but I fit into the stereo type of the Northwood student left by some on this site, that is: upper middle class (have money to burn), have a nice car, and from what I hear occasionally good looking. It doesnt matter I still get turned down when asking about greek life functions. To reiderate, NU fun is centered around athletes and the greek life. If you are not part either,especially if you live off campus, you will be one bored college student. Very little embracing of diversity, and not just race either. Unless you like to get stupid drunk every weekend, or are into fashion, or cars if you are a guy, you will not have fun here. You will feel like an outsider. The cafe's food was pretty good, but education is what most people come to a school for. And the education here sucks! It is not worth the money and financial aid will give you the run around, especailly if you're in dire need of financial assistance. The only people who get scholarships, are children of car dealership owners and atheletes.
Professors are pretty great, I will not lie. They have office hours and are very helpful. However I did have a math teacher who I tried to contact once I transfered to another school, but she just totally ignored me! Do not take "the weird philosophy teacher everyone talks about" as everyone will literally walk out of his classes earlier, fall asleep, or just be damn bored out of your mind.
Hard to get around without a car, unless u take the "dial a ride".
Lot's of students just like to get drunk and have no substance, nor appreciation of a college education.
Basically NU is full of snoody upper middle class (not rich,like most would like to think of themselves) students who have money to go to any college but are simply (not were, still are) to dumb to get into Princeton or even State. And you have to be a loser for you to not get into a state school! All the girls here wear way toooo much makeup and look orange year around. And most of the soroity chicks pop vicodin, I know this firsthand because I have seen it with my OWN eyes.
All in all, NU sucks. The two things that turn people away from Northwood are the small size and the location.

The small school environment is what makes Northwood so great. The campus is close so you constantly see familiar faces. You almost never find yourself in a situation where you meet one person at a party and you never see them again. The classes are smaller too so you're not sitting in a lecture hall with 200 other kids trying to learn.

As for the location: Midland isn't the most exciting place in the world but there is always so much to do on campus that you will never find yourself with nothing to do. There are lots of nice places to eat and downtown Midland is very nice. The winters are cold but that should be expected.

The business focus makes Northwood amazing. Although you do take some general courses like Calc, English & Sciences, most of your classes are dedicated to your major. Taking four years of science classes help engineering majors not business majors. I use the things I learned at Northwood in my professional life on a daily basis. Everything you learn here is useful- you don't take pointless classes that you are never going to use in your life.

My advice for prospective students: Take advantage of every opportunity you get here because kids at other schools only dream of experiencing some of these things, meet new people, work hard & have fun! If you're looking for a big state party school, this is probably not the place for you.
