The bursars office does not send you any updates on the bills and that can cause you to have over due bills and also to have trouble signing up for classes for the next semester. The Elliot Center which is where you pay for all your bills and sign up for classes and also where the health center is and it is full of rude, idiotic people who either hate their jobs so they don't perform them well or have no idea how to perform their jobs. When you go in there be prepared to leave angry, they call you in to tell you things that you could be told through e-mail so you waste your gas and time to do something that could be sent through letters or e-mails. The faculty have a mix of people who are extremely helpful to people who could give less than a shit about your existence. The classes range from being easy to being as hard as humanly possible with the expectation that you memorize everything that you have learned just so that you can put it down on paper during a test the next time you have one.

The Health center is also a huge shit show where half the time no one is there or people are there and you wait a half hour to an hour to be treated. It is also up 3 flights of stairs, though there is an elevator many people choose not to use it because it is so old. They also either state that no matter if you have a broken leg or a really bad headache they insist that you are either pregnant or have mono and would like to perform a test that costs 20 to 50 dollars because this college is obsessed with collecting money from you.

Some students cannot even declare their major when it comes time to do that. The college likes to switch around what your major and minor is so that you constantly have to re do your major so that you can get it correct. They do not listen and they always get the information incorrect.

Class sizes are increasing because they are cutting classes and teachers and how much teachers can teach so the classes are becoming less and less personal.

They have also now put Freshman status above Senior status.

Freshman and sophomores are also now required to live on campus.

You should be wary of coming here if you want to be able to register for classes easily and if you don't want to have an argument about unpaid bills every time you go to sign up for classes.

Except, most of the students I felt were here on their parents dollar to drink as much as they and barely get by with their school work. I was EXTREMELY disturbed by this, and started to really dislike the school. My classes were all in the Huntress basement which was horrible. I started to look for schools to transfer to, and I found the perfect one for myself. Getting through the first semester was actually the toughest time of my life, I felt very alone even though I was part of clubs...I couldn't really find the right fit for friends. Odd enough during my second semester after switching dorms, dealing with drama, and basically hell, I found people who were like me, who cared about school and weren't here to just fool around....To the point to now I am starting to like Keene and might stay here. However, I am writing this review in a negative category due to the fact that the first semester was literally the WORST time of my life. My RA didn't help me, not even my RD. You need to learn how to live on your own here, and there isn't much help, you grow up fast here...It takes time but it took until just last month for me. I use to be embarrassed to go here, now its not so bad... I went to Keene for a year and then left as fast as I could. There are some wonderful things about the college (I made good friends, the professors are nice etc) but as an academic institution don't even consider this school. Few of the professors have Ph.D's and unless you want to go to this school as an education major (the only good program the school offers) its a waste of your time and money.

Let's start off with the administration and general support departments. First, financial aid. Now, financial aid for most schools is everyone's least favorite department. Keene takes it to a whole new level. The head of financial aid was rude to both my parents and I every time we walked through the door. She tried to talk me into using my military benefits when I clearly told her I did not want to. One of the most annoying policies put in place is the no guests during finals week. No parking passes, no signing people in, nothing. They do all of this in a valiant attempt to get kids to be studious and force them into working. Which is pretty pathetic. Real universities tend not to have things like this in place and let students make their own decisions.

If you like to eat after 7pm, your options are limited. The DC closes down and all you have left is LLoyd's and whatever local restaurants you can pay for out of pocket. This is something I wish someone had told me. Also, be warned if you live on a floor with a ton of people who party and break things, you'll be charged damages even if you didn't break anything.

Now for the people. I met some really nice wonderful people who are incredibly intelligent. I have met far more that are not. Even the intelligent ones have few ambitions and generally do not care about their future career. College to most of the kids here is just the thing you do in between partying. For some of the kids, its the thing you do because you don't want to work at McDonald's. More often than not there was puke all over the floor of the bathroom Friday and Saturday nights. I learned to be a heavy sleeper.

The dormitories are pretty terrible for freshmen. I lived in Randall and it was not fun. It was cramped and falling apart. They're nice for upperclassmen (mostly).

The town itself is cute. Not much to do. Everything closes early so most of the night life comes from people getting drunk and throwing parties. If you're not into that, then you're going to be bored. I went home most weekends.

Overall, if you're a serious student who cares about their career and their future, you should go to another state university.

Once I found the Occupational Safety program at KSC I knew it was for me. I couldn't imagine working in any other field. The safety degree program has gained a lot of traction since I graduated. It is a well respected program throughout the country. The outlook for safety professionals is great. There will be more jobs in safety than people qualified to fill them in the next 5-10 years. I had heard that the campus was beautiful, the English program excellent, and the night life/parties were really great. I really looked forward to going.
First off, let me say that the surrounding city is a MASSIVE disappointment. Very small, very rural. The downtown shops are unimpressive and overpriced. The only good way to pass the time downtown was to go to a restaurant. As for general shopping, there is a Walmart within walking distance of campus, and you can get shuttled to Target Monday through Saturday (the shuttle hours, however, are awful and the shuttle was NEVER on time).
The parties are disgraceful Honestly, it's better just to go to UNH or UMass for the weekend and not bother with the pathetic social gatherings Keene State students call "parties". The social life is abhorrent.
The students fall into literally two categories: Crunchies and Connecticuts. Neither care about education. The crunchies like their weed, 'philosophy' discussions, and sleeping during class. They are not attending college to educate themselves. The Connecticuts are worse; they are lazy as well as snotty. It is rare to see someone who cares about academics/their future at Keene State. Most people are worried about their Sperrys and Vineyard Vines, not seeming to understand that Keene is a low level state school at best and it doesn't matter what they wear.
I will say this; the faculty is excellent. Kind and helpful across the board. Many of them are adjunct, however, and few have PhDs. Not good. Classes are suited to fit the majority of the student body - i.e. middle school level learning. Very easy, but that's to be expected when you're surrounded by kids who don't care.
Housing is nice, I lived in Holloway this past year. Living in a triple can be difficult; usually one person is left in the dust while the other two are off having fun. Keene really loves triples/suite style dorms. In this way, they can cram as many kids as possible in one room and still charge an arm and a leg. The dorms are passable. Notable exceptions being Huntress and Butler - both beautiful, newly renovated dorms. The prices of housing are average - around $9,000 a year. Tuition is cheap if you're in state. Out of state, you're getting ripped off BIG TIME. If you are a Massachusetts or Connecticut resident, try for UConn or UMass. Much better value and will most likely cost you less.
The food is great, and may be the only highlight of the school.
Overall, a terrible experience and I am thrilled to be transferring.
