Thats it. That's the extent of the good things I have to say about this school. Don't eat at La Posada... just, don't. You will look at it the first week and think "damn, so many options!" Well, 3 weeks in, and those many options seem to never change... Because they don't. Same breakfast ("eggs" "bacon" waffles, and some diarrhea-inducing green chile sauce) every single day, and some other shit passed off as edible. Eat at the Sub/off campus if you can afford it.
If you ever catch one of the LaPo workers on smoke-break, start up a friendly conversation (As an Out-of-State-er, that is one thing ABQ, or at least the students, had going for them: Friendly people) with them and just ask about the food. At some point they will laugh when describing their position as a cook/dishwasher/lady that swipes your ID Card)

By the way, there are a LOT of shy people on campus. Serious, if you are shy, just say hi to someone. Sure it will be awkward, but after the first couple, meeting a few people in class, you'll get the hang of college social life. Too bad you won't see most of your friends around, considering UNM is one of the largest commuter schools around.

Smoke? Drink? Toke? You'll love it here. I sure did. All of those things are banned on campus, but you wouldn't know it due to she shear number of people breaking the rules. A sure-fire way to make friends is hand out around one of the few Designated Smoking Areas around campus. I suggest The Bench across Lomas and the parking garage

Honestly, if you find a group/club/cliche, etc, you'll love the social atmosphere.

Don't worry about grades- You'll either get an A if you study, a C if you don't, and an F if you don't show up to class at all. I was lucky to have good teachers for the short time I was there. Judging by the other reviews, it was only a matter of time...

Honestly, I would have stayed just for the social aspect and have taken classes at the community college while loitering around the UNM main campus like so many others.

I stayed in Casa Del Rio... BIG MISTAKE. If I didn't have a lawyer for a mother and a doctors note from UNM Hospital, I'd be stuck with a horrendously expensive, bulletproof lease. Be warned, dorm life is hit or miss...

TL;DR- Cool people, shit food, huge campus, no parking, Lobo basketball, and average academics. If you're motivated, you'll do fine.

By the way, I left for medical reasons- You don't want to know. Don't pass up the free condoms.

I don't know why UNM is even ranked for engineering, but I'm sure Sandia has a lot to do with that...(not a good thing). In their program, you only get to have hands on experience just one semester and it's basically a "diploma factory". I left UNM to go to Florida Tech and at Florida Tech, we actually live in the shop and learn by actually engineering with our hands. And at UNM the only company there to work for is Sandia where as I have a ton of companies here by Florida Tech that I can work for. Because I had not planned to pursue a college degree in HS, UNM was as good a choice of school as any for me. When I first started out I really didn't know what I wanted to major in. I had always played guitar (self taught) and knew that I wanted to further my playing and musical abilities, but my music reading skills were limited. I took the entrance exam to get into the music theory courses and the professor gave me the chance to prove myself. I ended up being one of the top students by the end of the semester and I was well on my way to becoming an exceptional musician. UNM (as far as the music dept. goes), was/is great. Professors are great and so were my fellow students. I don't plan to go into music for my graduate studies or for work, but it is a passion of mine and I got what I wanted out of UNM in terms of becoming a better musician.
