Student Clubs and Organizations
Phi Delta Theta Fraternity fraternity  The Ohio Epsilon Chapter of Phi Delta Theta is one of the oldest student organizations at The University of Akron. It was founded in 1875 when UA was still Buchtel College.

Phi Delts are ingrained in the life of the University. A large, active alumni meets monthly at the Martin University Center, named for Brother Paul Martin. The Akron chapter regularly boasts a GPA near the top of the fraternity rankings, and the alumni maintain one of the largest scholarship funds for any single fraternity chapter in the nation.

The only building actually built to be a fraternity house at Akron, the Phi Delt house dominates corner of Spicer and Carroll Streets. It has the capacity to house 12 members, and host meetings for up to 100 brothers.  [Edit]

Sigma Nu Fraternity fraternity  A social fraternity, Sigma Nu was founded in 1869 at Virginia Military Institute by three Civil War Veterans.

Founded as an anti-hazing fraternity, Sigma Nu gained strength and branched out from the Alpha Chapter to other colleges and universities.

The Kappa Lamba Chapter of Sigma Nu was founded at the University of Akron in 1984 and now has over 300 initiates.

It has been consistently a solid chapter with broad-based membership.

Fraternities will need to adapt to meet the requiements of future students. No longer can they survive by being "Animal House" - the movie was a comedy, a great one no doubt, but JUST a movie comedy. In real life, those members never come back to support the chapter as alumni and the chapter can die. To survive in the future, fraternities must live up to the promise of helping to develop students outside the classroom and lab.

And don't worry about fraternities becoming boring. No one has to tell 18 to 22 year olds how to have fun.  [Edit]
