Student Description This is Kettering University with a house fire in the distance. These fires are somewhat common (1 or 2 a term) because neighbours set abandoned homes ablaze.
I did not take these pictures, but more pictures of Kettering University can be seen at http://gregcumberford.com/pics/2002/flint/

I was a resident of Mott Park (the neighborhood surrounding Kettering) for years. The above picture is unfair as it gives an unusually negative impression of a truly unique and innovative university. Typically, fires like the one shown are set by kids on the night before Halloween. I personally never saw one so close to Kettering. The city has been proactive with this problem and has domolished a large number of abandoned properties. The city leaders and residents volunteer on this night and making the fires of Devil's Night a thing of the past.
Additionally, the city is what you make of it. We have The Flint Symphony Orchestra, the Sloan Museum, Longway Planetarium, the Whiting and Mt. Holly. There are also great malls 15-30 minutes away. Grand Blanc and Northern Oakland County have wonderful things to offer. It was my experience that many of the Kettering students just don't do much exploring.
