LLU-NIH IMSD, Office of Minority Student Development in the Biomedical Professions

www.llu.edu/llu/medicine/minority
The mission of the office of minority student development in the biomedical professions (OMSDBP) is to develop and coordinate new academic programs to reduce the documented disparity in the number of underrepresented minority students that graduate with doctoral degrees in the biomedical and clinical sciences in the USA.  The overall goal is to increase diversity at Loma Linda University School of Medicine which would enable us to continue providing high-quality education to serve in an increasingly diverse local and global community.  The specific objective of the office is to increase the number of underrepresented minority students graduating with doctoral degrees in our basic and medical science programs.  The mission of the OMSDBP is in tune with LLU's mission to “promote an environment that reflects and builds respect for the diversity of humanity‚Ķ"

LLU-NIH initiative for minority student development (LLU-NIH IMSD program)

The LLU-NIH initiative for minority student development program is an educational training grant awarded to Loma Linda University by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, National Institutes of Health.

The funding of this program has allowed LLU to establish a comprehensive research training program in the basic science departments of Loma Linda University School of Medicine (LLUSM).  The goal of the program is to increase the number of underrepresented minority students obtaining PhD degrees in the biomedical sciences.  The LLU-NIH-IMSD program started giving awards to outstanding minority students in the summer of 2001.  This comprehensive program provides support to highly qualified undergraduate, graduate, and medical minority students at Loma Linda University.
