The Research Apprenticeship Program (RAP)

was developed by the UNC-CH School of Medicine to increase
the number of disadvantaged rising junior and senior high school
students who pursue careers in the science fields. The Program
exposes students to basic and/or clinical research through an apprenticeship
experience. Students will work on a scientific project under the
guidance of a research scientist for seven-weeks. Students will be
able to expand their knowledge of and competence in science.
They will conduct science in creative ways, expand their appreciation
of the investigative process, and investigate career prospects. At the
completion of the Program, participants will provide a written and
oral presentation on their projects. A stipend is awarded and
on-campus housing is provided.

Medical Education Development (MED) Program
www.med.unc.edu/oed/med The
MED Program provides demanding academic preparation on the level of
beginning medical/dental studies for applicants* planning to apply to medical
or dental school in the fall. Students are engaged in
over 200 scheduled class and lab hours in Gross Anatomy,
Histology, Physiology, Clinical Biochemistry, and Microbiology/ Immunology or Dental Theory
and Technique. Individualized work in learning, study, and test-taking skills
will be provided in addition to pre-professional counseling, seminars, workshops,
and orientation to the medical and dental school environment. Participants
receive grades in each course and a certificate upon completion
of the program. A UNC-CH transcript is NOT issued, although
some institutions may elect to give credit.
