The Research Apprenticeship Program (RAP)
www.med.unc.edu/oed/rap
RAP was developed by the UNC-CH School of Medicine to increase the number of disadvantaged rising junior and senior high school students who pursue careers in the science fields.  The Program exposes students to basic and/or clinical research through an apprenticeship experience.  Students will work on a scientific project under the guidance of a research scientist for seven-weeks.  Students will be able to expand their knowledge of and competence in science.  They will conduct science in creative ways, expand their appreciation of the investigative process, and investigate career prospects.  At the completion of the Program, participants will provide a written and oral presentation on their projects.  A stipend is awarded and on-campus housing is provided.
