Valpo has a lot to offer achademically. It is a tough school with an awesome reputation. Students with a degree from Valpo are respected and highly esteemed. It's not an easy school to get into and it is not just a blow off party school either. It has a Christian affiliation, mainly ELCA Luthren, but I am not Lutheren and I love it! Most of the student body takes this college serioiusly. Some, are snooty, but that is only because they are there for the right reasons. Although, most are super friendly and eager to befriend or help anyone. It's almost a pleasantville atmosphere. If you come to Valpo, it is up to you to get involved with the extra curriculars… if you don't, you are missing out on the majority of the "college experience" valpo has to offer. Greek life is dominant. But if you choose to remain independeant, you are not looked down upon nor are you excluded. The town of Valparaiso has a lot more to offer than the students even know about. I live around here locally during the summer and I am very familiar with the town. Although, most VU students are not. They don't get off campus very much, in my opinion. We have a drive in Theater down the road, countless places to eat and shop, merrillville is only 15 minutes away with a large shopping mall nad more commercial industry. Downtown valpo is on Licolnway, only a 5 minute walk from the campus. Downtown has an old fasioned look to it, Ex: street lamps and an old court house in the center. It's beautiful. Chicago is only 45 minutes away and the Dunes are only 10 minutes away. It's a great college and a really pleasant place to live!
