I think there's a
party school/Greek/snob
stigma associated with state, that is definitely not the case. I've come across many diverse people in my two and a half years here, and this school has really broadened my horizons.

The surrounding campus area is a little rundown, but the trolley and The Paseo being designed by the SDSU Foundation will soon alleviate that. Plus, there's some charm in having 24 hour taco shops around…it's college. We're not going to have glamour surrounding us.

San Diego is wonderful! If I get bored with campus life I can head west on the 8 to shop, get coffee or run on the boardwalk at pacific beach or mission beach…go hang out with hippies in ocean beach. Old Town has great mexican food and sushi, and the nightlife in downtown is really fun. (bars in PB are fun, but the word "bro" comes to mind)

Classes are good. The Communications department gives great hands on training, but leaves you a little stressed over prerequisites and the Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation Test. (Take it ASAP if you're a comm major! you only get 3 tries to pass!)

What's fun is the Mission Bay Aquatics Center classes. You can get a unit of credit for surfing, wakeboarding, sailing, etc.

Organizations leave a little to be desired. Most are Greek, ethnicity-based, or professional. If you're looking for a purely general social group there's not many to choose from.

I'd suggest on campus, dorm living. The ARC gym is great, as well as Cox Arena. (good concerts!) The new suites and the renovations make the on-campus community really nice and a great way to make friends you'll have all throughout college.

Sports is whatever. Our basketball team rocks though!

I wish that I was going to be entering SDSU as a freshman in about four years from now. Then the trolley and college district redevelopment project would be finished. I'm just glad that these improvements are in the works, so I can enjoy them as an alumnus.
