Date: Nov 27 2002 Major: English (This Major's Salary over time) Oberlin faculty and students raised my standards. Folks there focus less on the grade than on the learning process, helping you envision yourself as a future author, economist, chemist, environmental lawyer, or whatever. People there hang around ideas for four years and love doing so.Whether or not you are a student in the Conservatory of Music, there is no place like Oberlin for high quality free concerts. The discipline and high standards the "Con" students bring to their studies filters over to the Arts and Sciences students. Everyone is passionate about at least one thing.Don't believe it when you hear Oberlin is all politically active liberals. The College's activist tradition is a proud one, as is it's historic commitment to diversity. But you will find a more balanced spectrum of viewpoints than you might expect. Outside of the classroom, Oberlin feels like a small university, offering hundreds of clubs and activities, varsity sports such as football and basketball, club sports like fencing and ultimate frisbee, and student-run cooperative dining halls. And Oberlin, Ohio is not really Midwestern—more like an extension of Pennsylvania or New York State. Most of the students are from the East Coast.
