Major: Other (This Major's Salary over time)
Springfield tauted itself as being a YMCA school and was originally founded for this purpose. The years I attended (Fall of 1966-Spring 1970) the SC did very little to prepare the tiny handful (less than 10 in my class) of us who were "YMCA" majors. I arrived at my first YMCA job ill prepared to deal with 90% of what I was expected to do. The faculty in the department were more social work oriented and were generlaly clueless about the Y.Social life at the time was weak and we joked that the SC stood for suitcase college. Some female alumni speak kindly of finding their spouses there-wasn't hard… at the time there were 4 guys for every gal. Granted that many things have probably changed in 33 years but I can't help wonder if majoring in non-profit business would have been a better way to go.I was very verbal about my views for several years and stopped complaining about years ago-but if anyone ever calls for a donation……..To their credit SC seems to be more diversified now that in 1970 and I think that is healthy.
