Alfred State is a good place if you a) are at home in a very rural area and b) plan to quickly get in and get out. It's also good for those who can't go anywhere else… which is part of the problem. One thing for certain, don't go there if you want to make waves. Don't even go there if you're the least bit bothered by the one-fits-all approach. This applies to both academics and socially. 99% of the students here are exactly the same as the other, and most of them are beer-chuggers. Most female students here are married/with children nursing students, and there are very few of them overall. As far as what you learn, the idea is a great one: forget all of the theory, and focus on what will get you a good job after graduation. This could be put into practise better if we had better professorship and 100% of the professors made the effort to stick to this. Unfortunately, the school administration treats professors poorly and does not pay them well, from what I've been told, so they can't get/keep good professors. There are a select few who are awesome, but most are depressing at best. The administration, meanwhile, does not treat the students very well, either. They do not care, for example, if the entire campus is under a sheet of ice for months on end (which sucks, because the campus is on the side of a small mountain and has many stairs/steep ramps). It is also very hard to fix issues/concerns.
