I have to say that going to Vanderbilt has been one of the best experiences that I have ever had. The only way you will not be able to fit in at this school is if you try not to. I have many friends that are involved Greek system and some that are not. You can find every type of person here at Vanderbilt. The best part about coming here is that you will find extremely bright individuals surrounding you and if you want to have philosophical conversations you can. Although the Greek scene is very large it is not the only scene. There are plenty of smaller house parties which are thrown by both Greek and non Greeks. Also, Nashville is an amazing city with endless activities that you will find every year. Each year that I am live here I find something new and exciting to do. However, I would recommend a car in order to find these things around Nashville. And if you don’t like to party, Vanderbilt has plenty of opportunities for you to partake in. Don’t think that if you don’t drink or party you wont have fun. That is completely untrue. I have plenty of guy friends who are in fraternities and don’t drink. And I have a ton of non drinking friends who find other outlets of fun because they don’t like the Greek parties.

The school work is hard but why go to college if you don’t want to be challenged. The teachers are great, if you ask for help they are more than willing to work with you. Maybe it is because I am in engineering but every teacher knows the students personally and go an extra mile to further their success.
You might hear that Vanderbilt is full of rich snobby students. This is only true if you are close-minded and go into this school with that type of attitude. Yes, Vanderbilt has many wealthy people. But you will find that anywhere you go. I am certainly not wealthy and am having a great time here not because of the fun I can buy but simply because there are so many genuinely fun and interesting people you will meet here.

My one warning is to not let the opinion of others scare you into thinking that if you don’t have money, and if you are not superficial you don’t belong at Vanderbilt. College is what you make of it, and if you come here with an open mind you will be able to find diverse, fun, intellectual, down to earth people who know what it is to have fun.
