Major: Computer Science (This Major's Salary over time)
Computer Science department prepared me for real world problems. They do not teach software languages or tools here!! They teach computer science theory… if you want to learn languages you are better off going to a state school or doing an associates degree at a community college. If you want to learn the theory behind the languages and constructs that apply generally to many languages, then this is a decent place to get and education. From the standpoint of the software industry, they want employees that don’t just know one tool or language … they need people who can quickly come up to speed in many areas and actually get work done. From my standpoint, I didn’t just want to learn languages… anyone can learn a language (monkeys are taught sign language), not everyone can be taught theory. If you intend to go into the Computer/IT field then you better know Comp Sci theory, not just a few languages. The theory is what’s going to enable you to go out and learn a new language from a $50 book and not have to take a $2000 course/seminar.
