Last year while deciding on a college, Eugene Lang was my first choice…I thought everything about it sounded great. It seemed like a college where I would benefit in many aspects, I thought I would meet peers that I could look up to and learn from and I thought that I would enjoy my classes seeing there different from the average college and the whole interdisciplinary ordeal…but now that I am here…I hate it. Eugene Lang College is possibly the most disorganized place in the world. They have done everything from lose my application in the beginning, to forget to send me my acceptance letter to losing my paid tuition the first week of school. I got stuck in classes that I didn't want to take cause everything else was filled, and all my classes are filled to the max, 18 kids in each. The classes themselves are either extremely challenging, or a joke. The teachers are the same. The kids for the most part, are the kids that weren't "cool" in highschool so they all got together and now they can be "cool," and super cocky and arrogant. And many like to talk alot, about something they know nothing at all about. And if you do decide to go to this school, do not live in the dorms!!! They are all over priced, but especially Union Sq. Sure, its great location, but it is dirty, you basically sleep in the ceiling, there's no aircondition, the heats never on, there basically isnt hot water for the most part, theres no social life (no "dorm experience" ) no internet and no telephones, even thought they lie and tell you you will get them. So basically don't chose this school…it is horrible. On a positive note though, they do have a good 1st year peer workshop thing, its basically an hour of hanging out and complaining to your peer advisor every week but its worth 2 credits so thats cool. And it is nice to not have any required courses for 2 yrs. (besides the terrible 1st yr. writing program) and also each class is worth 4 credits, so you can almost gaurantee getting out in 4 yrs. and the greatest part, you get Fridays off! One more thing, no matter how terrible many of the kids are here, for the most part many of them are super intelligent, so for those of us not so smart, we may seem lost much of the time in class.
