Barnard is a fantastic teaching school. The professors actually care about what you're learning, and will always be open to discussions on the material, the course, or the field in general. The only downside is the arrogance of our dear neighbor, Columbia. The school is fantastic, the people are total jerks. Some people just can't get over the name of their school, and some are so convinced of their own superiority that they'd be total snots wherever they went to school. My advice? Apply to Columbia AND Barnard, and then choose Barnard. But hang on to your acceptance letter to shut up people who call Barnard a "back door" to Columbia.
