ECU… Where to start. People say it is the "party school" of North Carolina. I tend to say that every college is a party school, some of them just cost more than others. The fact that a primary focus of Greenville seems to be drinking definately deterred from my quick progression through school, but that is not the beef that i have with ECU becuase as i stated, every school has the potential to be a party-type environment. The problem I have with ECU is the plethora of lethargic professors. I can honestly say that I learned absolutely nothing from more than half of the classes that I was enrolled in. There are some rare exceptions, some shining star professors so to speak, but for the most part, the really good professors go get jobs at other universities (I know this is true because i keep in touch with the good ones.) There is not near enough emphasis at ECU to get students involved in what is most important as you approach graduation: Getting some experience or some sort of job lead BEFORE you graduate. I remember that we were walked down to career services one time, introduced to some people that served as a council for proper resume writing, which is the least of your concerns post undergrad because EVERY recent graduate's resume looks exactly the same.

When you graduate from ECU ,the name is not going to do anything for you.. most employers that i have spoken to either have never heard of it, or scoff at the performance of the football team post-Steve Logan.

My recommendation to any prospective students to ECU. Look at the department you are thinking of going into and dont just trust the general admission staff who is trained to make ECU look attractive to in order to obtain potential student's tuition.

My experiences at ECU were good, but mostly because I had a great time partying, not because i feel that I was properly educated. I am not just some grief stricken graduate that didn't care enough to try while i was there either-I graduated in the top 10% of ECU.

I would encourage all prospective students to not consider ECU's social environment as a qualifier for admission. It is very distracting at ECU… you wont regret partaking in the partying process until years later.
