Some quick facts from a man lucky enough to have transfered out. William and Mary really does suck in all the ways people say it does. I guess the positives are true too: Sure, it was a great education (I am getting a better education at my new school however) at a decent price…blah, blah, blah

Honestly, I couldn't have imagined having had less fun my freshman year. If you were thinking you would meet many attractive people of the opposite sex b/c it's a Southern school, turn back…it's the ugliest school known to man…seriously. The beauty of the grounds are way over-rated too. New Campus is where you will most likely spend more than half of your undergraduate life. They don't take you there during tours…mmm 1970's architecture and decrepit lecture halls…so f'in pretty.

GREEK LIFE IS MANDATORY FOR FUN, PARTYING, MEETING (somewhat)FUN PEOPLE, DRINKING AND FOR THE SURVIVAL OF SOME REMNANT OF YOUR ONCE NORMAL SOCIAL LIFE. So if you like to party and you're turned off by the pretentiousness of greek life, then turn back. Take it from me. I swore GDI {godammnedindependent) for life, but already a month in I seriously considered joining a frat because there was absolutely no other social scene available. John Stuart (an alum) spoke here last year and it was the funniest hour of my entire life during his Q&A session…However, as much as he tried to show his pride for his alma mater, you could tell that he really hated himself for having chosen W&M. The socially capable W&M is noted by his incessant rationalization (e.g. "It's not so bad here." "At least everyone isn't snooty like at UVA.)."

Don't let them {Admissions, the Princeton Review, some of these posts} trick you into believing that there is something for everyone here…well…it might be so, but there is not enough of anything for anyone.

The academic rigor is waaaaaaay trumped up. Truth is, the ultra-competetive pool of outtta staters raised the status-quo up on the 'apparent over-all' admissions standards. It's way easier for (relatively) dumber VA kids to get in…High School was way harder than my freshman year…I guess that could've been a partial result of course selection though.

I did meet some great people and I had some excellent Profs…but the general student body was just so abnormally socially inept that I had to leave. All the cool kids in VA go to UVA. Hailing from NY, I didn't get the memo. I could go on and on with this polemic, but here is the essence:

If you want college to be the best four years of your life, don't go here unless you are a HUGE dork…I knew a few fun people who liked W&M alot—but they didn't really know what they were missing.

If you are reading this as a current student thinking of transfering—DO IT, YOU WONT REGRET IT. I go to a Catholic school now with male/female visiting restrictions in all the dorms—I LOVE THE PLACE. Go irish.

If you do decide to study at W&M despite my revelation that it is not suitable for those who try to enjoy life, join the W&M rubgy team. They'll teach you how to have fun in the Burg and you wont have to pay dues to keep them as friends. GO TRIBE.
