Major: Math (This Major's Salary over time)
i have gone here for one semester. this school has absolutely NO social life, it is sad. i have made great efforts to meet people and i know many people, but only have around 6 to 7 good friends. for a smaller school you wouldnt think there is such an emphasis on greek life, but there is here. many of the students pay for there friends through greek life, and dont try to meet others, in fact they use there platform as a frat guy or sorority girl to treat others badly, and act as an elitist highschool clique. spending the first semester here looking for parties and girls to socialize with has been a big failure, coming from austin i have had no problems with this, yet at utdallas, there are NO parties, the few are terrible attempts by the frats and are mostly guys. the few girls here that arent nerdy, foreign (not speaking english), or commuter students are completely engulfed in hanging out with the frat guys… consisting of drinking in someones apartment with 80 guys, many of the girls have come off stuck up and immature. there is no college football team, or any place for students to go and meet each other. the school is set up for commuters, not students trying to have a good college experience. also almost the entire school leaves on the weekends, returning home, which results in an entirely DEAD campus, this makes the school suck more. next semester i am looking optimistically at venturing to SMU and other schools to find parties and girls, but i am also prepared to try and transfer to utaustin if this fails.on a good note, the guys i have become close friends with are really great people, we just all want that interraction with girls that isnt surprising. the housing is great, and the city is alright (i am planning on exploring that as well). the curriculum is good, but i feel many classes that arent math and science (history and english related) are not emphasized, and result in bad proffessors (francis flaven for history for example).in conclusion, i am hoping next semester is better because i really want utd to work for me, but this first semester was really not what i was looking for. although i have already made great friends that i wouldnt replace, we all just want a place to party at with girls…so, if you want a school that has good academics and is GROWING in student size (and hopefully in social life), and you dont mind the lack of girls and large amounts of guys than come here… im still working on making this school a place for me.
