I think the most importnat thing to keep in mind is, you should ignore the comments that are too radical too one side- they are rarely true. For example, I've read alot of comments like "UCI sucks THERE IS NO social life". This is just absurd (think aobut it), how can a campus have no social life. The truth of the matter is that while UCI is not known as a party school, you can get involved in almost anything you want (as you can at any school). When I was choosing schools I was deciding between Berkeley and UCI, and ultimately chose UCI because I believed it would be a better fit for my particular goals. I have only been here 1 quarter so far, but I think I made the right decision. Be careful when people give their perspective on colleges, because just as the old cliche says "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", so too is college different for each person. That being said, I think UCI has great faculty and the resources available to studnets is excellent. If you are thinking about majoring in either science of humanities I think UCI would be a good choice because the faculty members are top notch, and the overall atmosphere (in my opinion) is very conducive to learning. True the city of Irvine is not the most exciting of all cities, but i think its a good location because its close to everywhere (i.e. you can go to LA, san diego, skieng, the beach, ect.. all within 2 hours). The so cal weather is of course great and while orange county tends to be superficial and materialistic, the people are friendly.
