Wake is a very small school - 3000 undergrad, but provides so many of the benefits of a large university: big athletics (school spirit is the best),greek life, great facilities, research opportunities, and great study abroad opportunities as well. Unlike largeer univerisities, the athletes live among the rest of the students, there is no fraternity/sorority row, and class sizes average about 20 people. For some, adjustment to the typical Wake student may take a while. By typical I mean white, anglo-saxon, protestant - oh yeah, and RICH. As a minority from very middle class, I'm still adjusting to the girls who wear make-up to the gym, people who drive extremely expensive cars, and those who's parents are able to pay for all of their college and still send them 200-300 dollars a week for allowance. The funny thing is that most of them do not realize how incredibly fortunate they are or that they have so much more money than others. Nevertheless, they are still very nice people. It's not difficulty to make friends and if you want to seclude yourself, it's very easy to do as well. As far as weekends go, when the frats aren't on probation, that's where all the parties are. Greek or non-greek, from freshmen to seniors, every one is welcome. If you're not into drinking, they can still be places for socializing. Winston-Salem does provide entertainment if you make the effort to look for it. There are tons of restaraunts and the mall is only a couple of miles away from campus. Campus food - average. If you're a vegetarian, consider another school or you can do all your shopping at the grocery store. Community service is big on campus and it's so much fun. There are tons of religious organizations and different clubs to get involved in as well. There's something for everyone here. All in all though, I can't imagine being anywhere else and I feel as if I have made the best decision. But just like any other school, it's not for everyone.
