Washington College was not my first choice, but (so far) it has been the best place for me. At first, I was horrified to go to WAC because it was in such a desolate area (I am from a large city area) and I was placed to live in the "sorority" housing. Well, it turned out that the open fields and valleys aren't so bad…and there are plenty of things to do (either on campus where there are plenty of bands, comedians, and activities or in Annapolis, Baltimore or D.C. which is in a reasonable driving distance). My housing placement didn't turn out too bad, because next semester I am pledging. As a freshman, I found the upperclassmen to be so open and welcoming! They have really made the effort to make me feel comfy and I know I can turn to them no matter what! The professors are excellent. I was so scared that I would not be able to handle college work…but the professors were there to help and listen to me, which was awesome. I have learned so much not just academically, but also about myself. I also got involved…I was able to write for the newspaper and cover stories that I would never be able to touch at other (larger) schools. I was even able to participate in an internship program (during my first semester of college!) I don't know of any other school that allows you to do such a thing…

So, so far, WAC has been a great place. Sure, there are some give and takes. For instance, since the campus is so small, gossip travels like wildfire, but you make do with it. And, at times Chestertown can get to be a bit little, with it's 5 discount stores within a 5 min. walking distance. But, hey…no place is perfect…and at least if you are looking for an escape, the parties are decent and public safety is lenient when it comes to certain underage activities.
