When it came time for me to choose a college to attend, I had no doubt in my mind that I would love Emerson College. I knew practically every minute detail about the campus, the programs, the extracurriculars—I thought that I was making a highly educated decision when I decided to enroll for the Fall of 2003.Unfortunately, upon arrival, I realized that Emerson was not the place I had anticipated. It is a campus made up of 2,800 pretentious, self-centered, socially-awkward individuals all struggling to live out social drama that they missed out on during high school (when they were being taunted and stuffed in trashcans by the "cooler" high schoolers). Don't take the fact that Princeton Review rated Emerson the "#1 Dodgeball Target" school. The kids who attend are just that: huge dorks. They are incredibly weird in a way that makes them seem cold and unfriendly. Also, for a school that is supposedly "open-minded," I find many of my peers to be judgmental and undereducated on the issues that they argue so "passionately" for or against. Everyone here supports Howard Dean for President, but no one knows who he really is or what he's about. If you have had any semblance of a social life before Emerson, you will be disappointed if you choose to come here. I'm warning you.Outside of the social scene, you will be disappointed with the incredibly mediocre academics. I sometimes feel like writing an apology letter to my parents because they shell out $12,000 per semester for me to sit in unstimulating classes and learn about things that are totally moot. Don't be fooled, this is a NOT liberal arts college. The core program is an absolute joke and the classes are so ridiculously easy.Housing, class selection, financial aid, and anything else having to do with the administration is a headache…and you will soon grow tired of being a number and a paycheck to a relatively small College that should take better care of its' students.
