SBU was a great place - great school; classes; professors; students; campus; location. That is to say - for me. I wanted a small, Christian, friendly liberal arts school close to home (Upstate New York), and I got that. At the time I was there, SBU was just starting to catch up with the age of computer technology and was only so-so competitive (according to a very competative person). The campus atmostphere is remarkably friendly. The professors are great and very interested in working one-on-one with you to personalize your education. It's in a small town, which has pros and cons. If you look under a few rocks, you'll find lots of fun stuff to do - both party and non-party orientated. I'm actually very jealous of those going there now, as SBU now has a very active social action / social justice program - something I'm very interested in. SBU is Catholic in the Franciscan Tradition, which comes through in the emphasis on service, but you don't have to be Catholic to attend, or to enjoy it (I wasn't!). I have to say as for "reputation"…most people know the name from men's basketball (from the "good days"). Good or bad? I'm not sure. I went to an Ivy League graduate school and the name/reputation of that university helps me no more than the lack of SBU name recognition hurts me. I highly recommend!
