After a mildly rough period of adjustment during my first term here, Auburn has fulfilled my every wish and met all of my highest expectations. The thing to remember is that here, as at all large universities, you have to be willing to take the initiative in getting out of your dorm, apartment, or whatever and getting yourself involved with people on campus. While my original intention was to participate in the Greek system on campus, I decided that I did not need the additional distractions that go along with the fraternity scene. This should not be taken as a criticism of Greeks. I have gotten to know quite a few fraternity guys over my four years at Auburn and find them to be friendly and completely lacking in the arrogance that some seem to think goes along with pledging a Greek organization. My girlfriend of almost two years is a sorority member and I have no trouble relating to her "sisters", who are as down to earth and accepting as any group of girls that I know. While it is true that our SACS problems, which are really in no way a big deal, have gotten a lot of press, they do not impact the student body in any negative way. As graduation approached, I applied to a number of graduate schools, both in and out of state, and had no problem gaining acceptance to more than one highly regarded school. If you will take the time to visit Auburn, you will learn that the only "challenge" you have in fitting in here is that this is not a "bright lights, big city" atmosphere. If you wait around for something interesting to do to come and find you, it probably won't happen. It is there for the taking if you are willing to look around and jump in. The payback is a solid and affordable education and a share in the most incredible school spirit you will ever find. Auburn people are proud of their school and thankful to have been a part of a family that will welcome them wherever they go. WAR EAGLE!!!!!
