Major: History/Histories (art history/etc.) (This Major's Salary over time)
I'm an out of state student who will leave at the end of the year. To keep it simple:

PROs

  • beautiful location = right next to the beach
  • temperate, warm weather = rarely rains, lots of sun
  • friendly professors
  • better night life than most colleges (based in comparisson to my friends' schools)
  • not too much work
  • CONs

  • people here…not too much diversity, hardly anyone interesting, 99% moderates
  • Isla Vista, the night life center gets old
  • in the boonies!
  • too relaxed; the slow pace of life puts me to sleep
  • feeling that people are just slow and dull
  • too many non-questioning "liberals"
  • too much hype for party scene; it's very wattered down
  • Note: I come from the east and I had high hopes for this school. My main gripes are the student body and being so far away from cities. I must point out, however, that many people love this school for the very reasons I don't. They feel that the student body is "chill" and that the isolated community is intimate. My advice is that if you went to a relatively quiet high school (didn't go out each weekend night) and like the idea of stereotypical "Socal" life, you will like this place a lot; it is very exciting for most, just not me.
