Major: Art & Design Department (This Major's Salary over time)
ive just finished my soph year. i commute so i dont really know much about the campus life. honestly, all the things that people said were valid in terms of registration and the admin. aspect of pratt. indeed, ceilings are falling apart. foundation year i think was a TON of work but it really preps u for the coming semesters. it does what its called, it sets your foundation, gives u a firm understanding of what good design is and helps u have a feel for what you might want to major in. its based off the bauhaus which i thought was pretty impressive.

im in the COMD dept. and ive had some great teachers. i agree, ud have to ask around for who arer good and who are not. most will invest time in u one on one if u approach them. theyre responsive to emails and give u their numbers too. so i ithink its great that we have working professionals that are teaching us- so they arent too oldschool in their thinking. some great teachers: Karen Madsen, Charlie Goslin. im taking them again next year for type and graphic design. some days i feel like i am wasting time in classes, like the ridiculously easy liberal arts requirements and 3d from foundation year. it all depends on who u take and what youre willing to invest it.

artt really has to drive u and u have to be willing to learn and go beyond what u already are comfortable with. theres no point in coming into the school and leaving the same as u came in. not worth the money.

i get a 9G scholarship along with grants and what not every year. financial aid also helps a bit along with loans. it is a bit pricey but its a private school that is well esteemed. people come out from it more design saavy than most i think. u get the plus of having all the major art museums a few train stops away and where better to be for communications design than nyc? caffeteria food is pricey and not so good so i bring my own lunch. teachers are liberal, they inspire and arent so rigid where they hinder your own style and creativity. theyre willingto let u loose as long as u are fully equipped with the basics.
