Date: Jul 23 2004 Major: Cultures/Civilization (This Major's Salary over time) Elmira College prepared me to think critically and to navigate my way around the world socially, academically, and professionally. While some suggest Elmira "holds hands" with students, I can assure you that the college experience is no greater or lesser than you make it. If you choose to "nestle" and require that to grow into your success, you can find that at Elmira. If you relish your independence and prefer merely a launch pad for your personal goals and aspirations, you'll find that as well.As is true anywhere, in college in particular or life in general, certain participants or achievers will catch the eyes of the powers that be. That can either become your complaint or motivation. Choose to make other's strides your starting point. Think "I will surpass." Your success comes not from the recognition by others, but in the achievements that cannot be taken from you—those great equalizers like participation and character.I applaud and thank the outstanding faculty who daily give of themselves more than a student could ask, the staff who strive for perfection and work their magic to make things run smoothly and never cease to do so with a welcoming word, and the ambitious and progressive administration without whose vision Elmira's light could have easily been lost under a bushel to the detriment of all.
