I’ve taken courses at a number of other schools including the University of Maryland, Rutgers, Kean, and am now almost done with a graduate program at Stevens Institute of Technology. I thought the classes I had at UNM were at least as high quality or higher than any of the undergraduate courses I took elsewhere.

I want to say that I got a lot out of the general courses taken before going to the business school for my major. My writing greatly improved, and things like modern music appreciation taught me more about history and science than I could have expected from an elective about music. Having said that, in a few classes, I found professors applying strong politically correct or Left-leaning slants on course material. However, they welcomed discussion in & out of class, and my conservative opinions did not seem to hurt my grades. Incidents of liberal bias are probably the case at many universities, but I only noticed it at UNM. I personally found the debates interesting, but I doubt if many students recognize political bias. I didn’t experience any conservative/Right-leaning slants to balance the Left. The business school was mostly straight-forward and PC-free.

As for campus life, I went to UNM from out of state and lived on campus all four years. I had a great social life in the dorms. The campus is beautiful. It’s not in the best part of town, but it was usually safe, and I didn’t know anyone who was afraid to walk anywhere on or off campus.

There’s plenty to do in terms of culture, partying/clubbing, outdoors, sports, an even mix of guys and girls, etc.

Like anything else, opportunities are always there if you look for them, and you get out what you put in. I think UNM is a great place to go to school and provides a well-rounded education.
