Major: Political Science (This Major's Salary over time)
I transferred to Georgetown University last year but I miss BC. I spent two years there. My interest is in politics and I'm currently an intern in the House. So, Georgetown was exceptionally suited for my needs. There is no better place than Washington for politics. I was also influenced by the fact that my boyfriend attends law school here. So…

Boston College was an excellent school for me and, if I had been engaged in another major outside of poli sci, I would have stayed at BC. But in my second year, I felt the proximity to the political mainstream here in D.C. was essential for my success in my field after graduation. I definitely want a career in politics at some level. If not for that one essential, I feel Boston College was a great, great fit.

Boston College is definitely a more beautiful campus than Georgetown and the city of Boston blows away Washington on the things to do list. I highly recommend Boston College to anyone interested in a great college experience. It's a quintessential college experience that only New England can provide. Especially in the School of Arts and Sciences where an abundance of excellent scholars teach. The professors were awesome and accessible to students in informal ways (such as walks and dinners) as well as during posted hours. I miss that. Georgetown is much more removed from the student/teacher congeniality. The history department at BC was also top notch. I had friends in the Carroll School of Management who raved about their teachers as well, but I never took a business class. Not my cup of tea. Also, BC has an incredible Wall Street connection. Peter Lynch is a grad and BC is locked in with an incredible endowment of over 1.2 billion. Georgetown's is only like 700 million, maybe less.

I miss the friends I had at BC. They were great. Georgetown is a bit cold for transfers even though the school makes an effort to administer to transfer student needs.

The student bodies of both Georgetown and BC are nearly identical in a number of ways. Both rich, elite urban/suburban types. Mostly prep schools and parochial high schools. But Boston College wins out for its awesome location in Boston and the all around diversity of its offerings. Sports are definitely a draw at BC and I miss the level of excitement that groups of us would share on our way to Alumni stadium before a game. Nothing beats Boston for colleges and the sheer number of students in any one city. It's a unique and impressive experience to live in Boston during fall and spring term when the city is teeming with college students. There's a tremendous energy. Washington is not the same. Even though there are a number of colleges down here. And I know I would not have transferred if not for the tremendous internship possibilities in Washington, D.C.. The campus atmosphere at BC was way friendlier and BC has an incredible computer infrastructure—the whole campus is wired, even the dorms. Incredible.

I'm considering BC Law (along with UVA and Georgetown) after I work in D.C. for a few years. Afterall, Boston College is where presidential nominee John Kerry attended law school after attending Yale. And Georgetown is Bill Clinton's alma mater before attending Yale law. So there's something to be said about these two excellent Jesuit Universities.
