Major: Political Science (This Major's Salary over time)
Now that I have been out of Kenyon for some time(graduated in 1988)I can now fully appreciate what an outstanding school it was and remains.Kenyon has a fanatical devotion to the liberal arts and sciences. The ability to think critically, express yourself through the written and spoken word, and the ability to apply these skills to one's chosen field of endeavor are hallmarks of most Kenyon graduates.Kenyon prepared me exceedingly well for medical school(even though I majored in poli sci at Kenyon)and gave me skills which I use every day in the practice of medicine. While the surrounding area is not conducive to extracurricular activities outside of Gambier there was always a lot to do on campus. I will say that the Greek system(and the ETOH which heavily consumed at too many of this coutry's college campuses)was too much of a focal point of campus life, I have heard that is changing over time.(I wouldn't mind seeing the Greek system gone for good). Yet, as a whole the social life was good, mostly because I was surrounded by VERY intellectual classmates who were stimulating and largely not competitive. While the Humanities remain what Kenyon is most noted for their science curriculum is superb, with some of the best facilities(and opportuinities for real research experience as an undergrad)in the nation.I have always felt that the top liberal arts colleges are far and away the best educational experiences for an undergrad in higher education. Kenyon is a perfect example of a top tier school which has remained true to this heritage. I chose Kenyon over Yale and would do it again in a heart beat.
