Major: Electrical Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
I'm a physics / Electrical engineering double major. In my department, professors are exceptionally accessible and are enthusiastic about discussing materials with there students. I've had opportunities to have lunch with many professors, in both EE and physics, to discussed research topics. The EE department prides itself in its ability to produce skillful, accomplished graduates and is willing to go the extra mile to do so.

The physics department has a relaxed, informal attitude that encourages discussions beyond class. Engineering research at NMSU is ranked 11th in the nation by the NSF, so you’ll have a good chance of landing an undergrad research job in a field you want to study. I’ve done research at both Princeton and LANL for summer fellowships. I must say the NMSU research/work environment is a far friendlier, productive and rational place to work. For the most part I must say the entire NMSU engineering college is excellent.

As far as other departments go, I would say the business college also stands out as a great college. Attendees tend to be exceptional dedicated and ambitious. They also have a reputation for knowing how to drink ;) .

At NMSU there tends to be a social rift between the sciences and the liberal arts colleges. Certain sectors in the liberal arts turns out to rather mediocre, with many of these students attending more for the college ‘life’ than for education. The good news is that these people tend to always be looking for fun, giving NMSU a well earned reputation as a party school.
