Catawba College is what you make of it. If you sit in your room (if you're a resident) or at home (if you're a communter) all day, bitching about how the school sucks, then you're obviously gonna hate the school. If you put forth the effort to meet people, make friends, and be yourself, then you'll like the school.

Everyone is pretty friendly here (I guess it's a southern thing). It's hard to get used to if you're a student coming from the north where people have no manners and are snobby. There aren't any cliques here but there are three definite groups of people that define the school. The theatre majors (since Catawba is ranked top ten in the nation for it's theatre program), the atheletes (especially football and lacrosse players), and everybody else. Be prepared to have a lot of friends within those groups.

The social life here is not bad, but the town of Salisbury isn't very exciting. The majority of students go to Charlotte, which is about 30 minutes away for a good night on the town. People like to party here but care about their studies. The most known parties here are the parties that this house on Lilly St. throws all the time, and the Mansion which the Lacrosse players own. There are many bad stories about the Mansion and how girls going there should be very careful, make smart decisions, and go with at least three or more guys.

Professors here are very helpful and knowledgeable about their field. They always give out there campus numbers and office hours for students needing extra help or just wanting to talk. The workload is managable as long as you set yourself some time to get the work down. If you procrastinate, you're done for.

Overall, I think Catawba is a great school and the best thing about it are the students. Everyone is so open-minded and acceptable of people's differences. If you had a reputation in high school that you'd wish you never had, or was way to shy to make friends, coming to Catawba or will be beneficial to you to make a brand new start.
