For people looking for a great small private college Elmira would be a great choice. If you're looking for a large place or a place where you can just participate in the campus minimally then don't even consider it. The most important thing to remeber about Elmira is that it prides itself on being like a family a home away from home. There are plusses and minuses to that. The main reason people are usually dissatisfied with the college is that they never visited the campus before they came or they didn't pay attention when they did. Anyone spending a few hours on campus can get a really good idea of what this college is all about. Like all colleges (at least all I've ever gotten to know) the main problem lies with the perceived reputation of the administration. For the most part the administrators at Elmira are some of the most dedicated hardest working people I've ever met and the really care about the institution and the students. Unfortunately, like most colleges the faculty resents being told what to do and some see it as their mission to convince the students that administrators are evil. This is a very vocal but more importantly very small minority. Overall Elmira College is an excellent place to spend four years of your life IF you decide to attend after visiting and making an informed decision.
