The
Engineering department is tiny and dismal. It's facilities are ancient
and run down. The labs lack proper ventilation and the
equipment tends to be spread too thin amongst the enrolled.
The library is old, is rarely cleaned well. The carpets
and upholstery stink, and the tables are covered in graffiti.
The collection is tattered and barely adequate.
While crowing about
its “diverse campus”, the ultra politically correct atmosphere can be
downright hostile. The Caesar Chavez Student Center might as well
have a “Whitey Go Home” banner draped across its entrance.
The food in the Student Center is fair to bad
due to the deference given to “Mom 'n Pop” food
contractors who tend to cut corners.
That being said,
the faculty I have interacted with have been...With exceptions...Very approachable
and enthusiastic. I do see a bit of “reduced expectations”
from faculty, particularly in classes requiring a command of English.
This is due to the sheer volume of immigrant students
in the school.
The caliber of the student body is
not particularly good. I have observed a lot of academic
dishonesty that the faculty seems to turn a blind eye
to. Students rudely talk to one another during lecture and
there's rarely a class session that isn't interrupted by annoying
cell phone ring tones.
In closing, I'm very disappointed with
SFSU. I have already applied to another CSU campus this
winter that will better suit my needs.
