As a student, I have found that Colgate is committed to improving the academic quality of its programs, its housing, its Greek system, its financial assistance to students, its athletic programs…all of which will enhance an already well-renown University. I applaud the administration and Colgate's first female president to make bold changes that are not necessarily based on popularity but on safety; to make changes that will help Colgate rid itself of its party image or that of a safety school. Though this may never happen, it is good to know that Colgate is not sitting idly watching the world go by. There is a great sense of pride in students these days, much more so than when I was a freshman. Today, a new library is being constructed on The Hill, a gorgeous new housing complex is breaking ground, the Greek houses are in teh process of being purchased by the University to offer students more housing options and revitalize a desperate Greek life, and athletes are taking advantage of Colgate's first-ever athletic scholarships. Additionally, (my) classes and professors both expect and demand a lot in an effort to prepare me well for the real world. I think Colgate will do just that.
