Major: Business - Management and Administration (This Major's Salary over time)
Hartwick was a great choice at first. I really liked the idea of how Hartwick says that technology plays a major role in the education of its students. Many teachers post assignments on a virtual classroom used by the school through Hartwick's website. E-mail is also the most common method of communication between students and professors. I WOULD NOT have come to hartwick if I had talked to a student before I came and they had told me that Hartwick's campus network is only about 20% reliable. Check it out for yourself…go to www.hartwick.edu. Quite often it will say site not found or will load extremely slow. This makes it nearly impossible to do work at times. Email rarely works and is not dependable. Campus is falling apart. Come visit it here in Oneonta, NY and see how every fifth cement stair is repaired with wooden 2 by 4's. I almost could not return for my sophomore year due to financial reasons and the people in the financial aid office told me to write a letter of appeal. I spent several hours writing a letter to the office with extreme clarity of why I thought I deserved more aid. I received no response all summer. No answer to several emails, calls, voicemails and so on. I get to college and meet with a lady in the financial aid office only to be told' "I appologize, but we had a large incoming freshman class this year and probably just did't have time to read your letter." In my 3 years here, I have noticed that Hartwick will spend every dime and nickel on getting new students to come here, but will rarely spend a nickel to improve the quality of life for current students. The ratio is way out of proportion. If I could do it all over again, I would have rather gone to a public state school. One positive thing to say about the school…the management program is excellent. That and the fact that I am involved with a greek orginization are the 2 single factors that are keeping me prisoner here at Hartwick College. For the cost of coming here (somewhere around 36 G's a year now) it just is not worth it. Usually if you are willing to pay the extra dollar for something, you expect more in return; things such as quality and service. When you pay 10 bucks for a pair of shoes you don't expect much out of them. When you pay $110 for a pair of NIKE shocks, you expect a little more comfort out of them. Going to Hartwick is like paying for the NIKE shocks and getting a $10 pair of velcro shoes from payless. There is also no school spirit here. The college community is just plain dull.
