the classes here are awesome - teriffic professors, who know their material really well. you can learn so much from them both in and out of class. the students body doubtlessly comprises people from diverse backgrounds having varied viewpoints, and by talking to them you can really learn to open your mind to things you had never considered before. however, there a several people who seem to believe that since oberlin is known for its eccentric (?) and open-minded students, that it therefore becomes their duty to be that way. so, you find posers who, in an effort to look open-minded, take on socially condoned/politically correct stances and end up becoming more narrow-minded than anything else, refusing to accept and sometimes even lashing out against any contrary ideas. be yourself dammit! the other kind of posers is the people who come from big cities and start meditating in trees to show how liberal, culturally rich oberlin has facilitated their spiritual awakening. you should know that oberlin is not made up entirely of these people, in fact, theyre a minority, but they are there. the social life is not bad, with 4-5 house parties on every night. the town of oberlin is really really depressing. one lousy movie theater, 6-7 restaurants, and just one bar. the college extra-currics are superb… everyone can find at least 2-3 things to be involved in, the number of things to do is enormous. also, theres always stuff going on around campus: concerts, recitals, varsity club and intramural sports, plays, lectures, speeches, discussions, political activism, the list goes on and on. oberlin has its pluses and its minuses; which one outweighs which is for you to decide.
