Major: Journalism (This Major's Salary over time)
I am a Photojournalism and Political Science major. The Journalism Program is one of the best in the nation, especially in the photojournalism area. The Depatment holds annual POYi (Pictures of the Year international) and CPOY (College versioin), the director also coodinates MAPW (Missouri Annual Photo Workshop). Both bring in a lot of contacts necessary to form careers. On one hand the school has a great reputation and potential if used the correct way. They are in the process of rewriting admissions policies in order to allow Freshman to enter J-classes earlier. This will be a great opportunity for them. It is disappointing because I have often encountered faculty who are more involved in their own recognition, or projects. They seem very conceited and selfish. It is very discouraging in this way. It is a lot of work. Quality advisement is difficult to come by especially before entering the J-School.The Potlitical Science program seems to have quite a few well educated professors who are all willing to help. I've enjoyed all my PS classes and learned quite a lot. I wouldn't recommend coming from out-of-state just for this program however. I added it as a supplement to my Journalism courses.
