Well let's see. I came to this HBCU expecting a lot of things. Beware! It just got accredited! There is of course, no diversity. I think we have about 3 whites, and two of them are teachers. The financial aid will have you in their office for the best years of your life if they can help it. They will mess up all your information and scholarships, then simply tell you that they cannot help you. Social Life: There is absolutely no social life. If you do not have a car, then find a friend who does or you are in for a life of misery. The school has a strict code on attendance so if you were able to get out to the many parties that do occur, be prepared to drag yourself on up in the morning. The only social activities are the sports, the gospel choir, and the soror/frats. That is all! The school has chapel every Tues morn which counts as a social credit or something (need 72 to graduate!) and has a guest speaker every Thursday (bore central!) How it looks: The campus is well kept on the outside….. For all the over 300 something odd acres, the campus isn't all that big. The buildings look nice on the outside, the grass is kept short, the flowers watered. The population is small, I dont think there are more than 800 students. Classes are tiny, most of my friends complain of not being able to understand our teachers from Africa. I am in the freshman dorm, though I am a sophmore because they took in more people than they could handle. I was lucky to have a room, some people sleep in what was once our computer rooms (ancient computers!). In the Freshman dorm for the females, the hot water is sometimey. We have people that come in the mornings to clean up, but people on campus are simply nasty. There are washers and driers on every floor but most of the time your quarters are eaten, your clothes are not cleaned and your clothes still damp. The attitudes of people here are also on the verge of junior highschoolers. Many want to maintain some tough attitude so fights do occur. Stupidity is actually respected among the students. Security is never there when something is going down. They will harass you to death if you dare try to have guests but let someone get beat up from the nearby school and they are nowhere to be found. Food is horrible! The main staple is white rice with gravy, french fries, pizza, chicken (in all forms), and something unidentifiable. The cafe is only open at breakfast, lunch, and dinner for about 2 hours each time. If you dont eat then, then you better become friends with your microwave and vending machine (other cooking tools are forbidden). Since there isnt much to do, a lot of people smoke or drink. I used to look down on it, but being here……The surrounding town is literally like something out of a movie. I dont even consider it a real town. The course work isn't challenging. Most of the people here aren't used to doing real school work, so they are in for a shock. As a out of state student, you face a lot of crap if you dont have a car, because there is nothing to do and nowhere to go. Many students live at the most 2 hours away and can go home every weekend. There are a lot of international students on scholarship and they are treated like royalty. They took out the featureless room phones this semester (no 3-way, call waiting, caller id) and it is optional whether u want to them reinstalled into your room. Hence, a lot of people are walking around without phones, and have no way of getting in contact with their families and friends. The pay phones are not in service. Emergency? Oh well. Cable…what a laugh! You have to pay extra for any real movie channels and for $40 (without movie channels!) you get the music channels, most but not all the local channels, and a lot of sports and news channels, oh yeah Nickolodeon, but no Disney. The only cell phone service you get is Altel, and a bit of Verizon. You are not allowed to have anyone of the opposite sex in your room at all. They are still considering having visitation but that means one day out of a week if your dorm isn't on probation, you can have someone in your room with the door open, mind u. There is so much more but I am getting a headache, would go to the nurse but she most likely isn't there……Dont come here, there is no future for you if you do. They say, most of the credits wont transfer They trap you here.
