Skidmore is a unique place and will be a good fit for you if you are spoiled, immature, and sheltered. This school has almost unlimited facilities, an amazing library, and lots of free food, t-shirts, and frisbees around campus. This is because that is what your $43,000 per year buys you.

The professors are okay, but almost none will challenge you to think, but rather rely on old ideas. If you don't believe in those ancient ideas and would like to challenge them, forget it and expect a D in the class. Teachers are sensitive and easily threatened by new ideas. Perhaps this is because they are teaching at a mediocre place.
Trying to get something done at Skidmore is near to impossible because the administration is composed of smaller minded housewives. Asking where a book is in the store, for example, yields tremendous resistance from the people working there. Perhaps they hate their jobs.

The students here feel the most excited about their new abercrombie sun visor and driving their saab than anything else. There is next to no social life and people spend saturday nights in their dorm room watching jeopardy. When you walk around campus (an ugly accumulation of concrete), people politely say hi and hold doors, but it seldom goes further than that. Instead, people act like zombies obsessed with themselves and fail to notice the larger picture.

The assignments for class seem to all center around the idea that if teachers keep their students busy with silly, useless work, they will not notice they are not being challenged. For instance, a teacher will assign a whole book and then not mention it in class, or demand a 20 page lab report be due in one week. Then, when grading it, emphasis is placed on the grammer and no comments are made about the content.

Bottom line: if you want an easy degree, where your professors will give you busy work and place more attention on you coming in one minute late to class than on the ideas you have, come to skidmore. Also, if you want a social experience that will make you feel like a lepper amongst a bunch of strange people, then come too. But, if you would like to be asked to think, then stay away, because thinking is not the first priority here.
