I'm going to start out with the good here:
  • The dorms are nice (suites)
  • It's relatively inexpensive
  • there are a few proffessors (can be counted on the fingers of one hand) that genuinely care for the students and will try to help out in any way they can, even if that means that the student will end up transfering out.
  • The campus is very safe
  • University Police are very helpful when you need their assistance.
  • There are a number of cool people here to hang out with.
  • Bad:

  • Dorms are not cleaned by staff in the summer break for the new year, so you're stuck with however the previous inhabitants left it as
  • Small female population. This is no place to get yourself a girlfriend.
  • There are next to no activities on campus leading to the fact that many students have stated to the effect that
I want to shoot myself in the foot just to have something interesting happen.
  • Most of the cafeteria food here causes you to spend a lot of time in the bathroom.
  • The academic hierarchy is befuddled as the result of all the deans resigning because of the president of the college not doing his job. There is now an interm president, but not all of the dean's chairs are filled.
  • There are a number of cool people here to hang out with BUT—there is a lot of standing around saying
So, what do you want to do?
  • As a result of the lack of activities, there is a heavy amount of drinking, which the administration and UP turns a blind eye to.
  • Course descriptions are not reflective of what is actually taught. For example, the course on
    Operating Systems and Networking
is about hardware architecture. Go figure.
  • The Ugly:

  • Most of the professors here do not know how to teach. That's about 80% of them. Half of that 80% are smart people, but just can't teach in a way to help you understand the material.
  • The other half are condescending idiots who don't know the material, don't know what they should be teaching in the course curriculum, hand out tests that are only vaguely related to the material, and get so hopping mad when you don't do well in the class that they yell at the class and sometimes just storm out, when it's actually the professor that's not doing the job. Some of this applies to the other half mentioned as well.
  • There is a significant portion of the teaching body that is not fluent in the english language and use the wrong words to explain concepts in class, thus compounding the already high amount of confusing with the poor teaching methods
  • There were a lot of empty promises made upon enrollment to draw students in even when the current students were not happy with the school.
  • Even though this college is supposed to be for New York State residents, there is a large body of foreign students (Oriental and Indian).
  • There is a constant state of gloom, rain, snow and cloud cover, which goes to initiate depression in a large portion of the student body.
  • Overall, it is one of the bigest mistakes you can make to come to SUNY IT. There are plenty of other schools that have the same majors, better professors, and better curriculums.
