Thanks for replying to my comment of another's comment. Firstly, what is wrong with commenting on a comment?I did not attend Montclair State, I was just trying to point out that the commenter who indicated "engineering department" was mistaken. Montclair does NOT have an engineering school and as an engineer I feel obligated to point out the error. I wouldn't want a reader of this discussion board to think they can become an engineer by attending Montclair. Perhaps with all of the check boxes in the questionnaire, it is quite easy to select the wrong one. Secondly, I stand by my assertion regarding the renaming of NJ state colleges as "universities". I don't mean to critique Montclair, this is a state education department issue. I don't agree with the others being renamed as universities either. In New Jersey, there are only six institutions that fit the traditional definition of a university. I am aware that some of the state colleges have had doctoral programs in education, however, a true university has others in hard sciences, engineering, medicine, law, business, and other fields besides. When I say 'externally funded research' I mean that the research is paid for by outside corporations, and state and federal governments and is of substantial quantity (say, more than a few million dollars). Again, I don't think MS fits this definition (though if I am wrong, please correct me).
