I knew what I was looking for before I came to Tulane. You have to be extremely realistic about the universities strengths and weaknesses in academics. I came to major in Latin American Studies in one of the top progams in the world and I was not disappointed. The faculty in my major were outstanding, friendly, and supportive. I cannot say enough about how perfect my experience was in my major. If you come to Tulane thinking you are going to get a great education in psychology or philosophy which is not an advertised strength, then you will no doubt be disappointed. Be realistic. Diversity statistics are made known before you get here, so you should not be surprised about how whitewashed this campus is, but there are a lot of international students in the business/engineering departments. Students are very snooty and spoiled, but if you keep meeting people you will find a few amazing people to hang out with among the trust fund masses. The city has its good and bad points. I come from another large city and I found New Orleans so much better in terms of nightlife. But I felt much more insecure about personal safety. It is a give and take situation. Decide what matters to you more.
