STAY AWAY! I just tranferred to a larger school. There are so many things wrong with Elmira College.

Academics - This is a diploma mill. You pay $35,000 a year and can sleep right through 4 years and get a degree. No challenge what-so-ever. You have to complete manditory community service. You also have to attend 2 years of "Encore" which are very below par fine arts events.

Administration - The school could careless about you as long as they have your money. Period.

Dining - The food is simply terriable. It is over priced and the dining services staff is made up of mostly former prison inmates from the maximum security prison (which is located 1/2 a mile from campus!)

Security - Yes, Elmira College has a beautiful campus, however the City of Elmira is a very very unsafe place. The campus is located between downtown Elmira and the main residential area of the city. It is NOT safe. Period. Day or night. My car was broken into 3 times in 11 months. People get stabbed and shot all of the time in Elmira. The school will tell you it is safe but that is a total LIE!

Money - Elmira costs double of what it should. The school wastes money on painting EVERYTHING purple (even the A/C units on top of the campus center). The use purple rock salt for goodness sake. Rather than investing in better professors or more programs they waste is on things like a $20,000 antique purple phone booth in the administration building or $150,000 on iris door handles.

The President of the college is a drunk. He can be seen stumbling around at college events.

Over all there is nothing good about Elmira except the pretty campus. DO NOT BE FOOLED! If you visit, they will make it seem like it is the best place in the world. Do not pay this much money for a school with no name or reputation. I have met many alumni around town who are working at Wal-Mart and gas stations.

STAY AS FAR FAR FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE!
