Lots of these comments basically say how CU is full of upper class, snobby, dumb, white kids. That is definitely partially true but there is a lot more to CU if you just look a little. Lots of classes are really enormous and you wont know your professors. But if you put a little effort into planning your schedule and paying attention to the professors you get (research them before signing up for their classes because although there are some absolute duds, theres are some really enthusiastic, helpful, and fun professors too) , then you will probably like your schedule.Freshman year you should definitely choose to do a Residential Academic Program (RAP.) Lots of dorms have them, like Baker, Farrand, and Sewall I know of, but im sure others do too. This way you can take one or two classes inside your dorm and it is a great way to get into small classes and get to know other kids from your dorm, because you can only take the class if you live in the dorm.Freshman year, everyone is required to live in the dorms, and after that mostly everyone gets an apartment, or a house, or lives in a sorority or fraternity. The best dorm is Farrand. They have the best dining hall and from what I've seen, the room sizes are pretty good. Baker is good, Libby has really small dorm rooms, and I think Chey Ho is good, lots of hippies there. Sewall is a pretty good dorm too- it is really close to lots of the classroom buildings and right next to the rec center, but a 5 min. walk to where the majority of the dorms are by Farrand field. Whatever you do, do not live in Williams Village- you have to take a bus to get to the main campus and everyone I've ever talked to who lives there absolutely hates it. The stereotypical CU girl is a girl with blonde or highlighted hair, wearing 7 jeans and ugg boots. There are definitely lots of girls who fit this exact description but most of them are not half-bad, and are nice girls if you actually talk to them. This stereotype probably only fits about half the girls who go to CU- its not as easy to find girls who arent stereotypical sorority girls but there are lots of them, they just dont stand out so much! For guys, its not as much of a big deal to do a frat. I know a million cool guys who arent in frats, it just isnt as big of a fraternity school as it is a sorority school. Plus, most of the frats have been kicked out anyway. Weekends (and weekdays for some people) are full of partying at the hill and random apartments around Boulder. Basically everyone here skis and/or snowboards and is into outdoors types of activities. CU can be a lonely place for someone who is not a partier, skier, or snowboarder, but plenty of people who dont fit this description find their niche here and seem happy.Basically, my advice is if you want to go to CU, its a great school but only if it is a good match for you. You should make a really well thought-out decision before deciding to go here because it can really suck here if it is not the right place for you. A lot of people complain that everyone here is snobby and white and rich, which is partly true- there are lots of people here like that, but there are also a lot of people who arent.
